MPIA Campaign – 8th & 9th March 2017

The My Period is Awesome (MPIA) Campaign’s pilot project kicked off on Wednesday 8th March at 3 senior primary schools in Atlantis Cape Town (Kerria Primary, Reygersdal Primary & Grosvenor Primary). The project also visited Gugulethu Comprehensive School on Thursday 9th March.
The MPIA campaign is a joint partnership between Project Dignity and Wise Economy (a Swedish based NPO). The pilot project was to provide 500 girls in Cape Town with washable, reusable sanitary pads as well as education on puberty, menstruation and feminine hygiene. The project also included the education of 100 boys which was done at Gugulethu Comprehensive School with Sonke Gender Justice.
Many thanks to the DA for their input and support with sourcing the schools and for Sonke Gender Justice for assisting with the program for the boys.
A senior primary school in Paarl is also going to be part of the project and the MPIA team will be visiting the school on Tuesday 14th March.
Follow up visits in 6 months to each school will help assess the benefits of the project and assist with funding to grow the project to help more girls and boys in South Africa.
